DPS Society History

The Delhi Public School Society is the central guiding force behind more than 200 schools initiatives in and around the country, imparting quality education to millions of children. Right from its inception in 1949, the Society has been a treasure house of excellence in education. The Society is governed by a Board comprising distinguished personalities from various spheres of eminence, who have selflessly guided the society over the years to keep pace with time and helped formulate pro-active policies in the larger interest of the populace. The philosophy of quality education for all finds its roots in the very reason of the society’s being, and it has accordingly been the effort of the society to establish schools in all parts of the country to cater to the educational needs of as many children as possible. The centralized governance of people of eminence, letters, and authority has helped DPS society maintain the highest standards in all it undertakes, and to keep ahead with a vision of an enlightened and well-educated social order. With more and more centers emerging as a result of this education movement, DPS has become the single largest school education society in the continent, and perhaps, the entire world.

Service before Self: The Motto

The motto of the Delhi Public School Society is a vivid reflection of the mettle and dedication that goes into the making of a noble institution, with a noble mission. It is a constant reminder that the DPS spirit always accords greater priority to the welfare of others over the welfare of the self. Service towards an enlightened path has always been the bedrock of DPS philosophy; a philosophy that reflects a commitment to serve others willingly, graciously, and selflessly.

We aim to preserve and enhance the highest standards of excellence and prepare capable, responsible citizens for the 21st century.

We ensure that Delhi Public School students are helped to master the expanding horizons of technology as also become the repository of a deep commitment to Indian ethos and culture.

We enable Delhi Public School students to be equipped to access the best opportunities for growth and advancement prepared linguistically and culturally for them. The concept of enlightened citizens of the world is the backdrop of all our efforts.

We earnestly desire to train the students of Delhi Public Schools to be sensitized to the environmental concerns, evoking in them the feelings of nationalism and communal harmony and motivating them to follow the motto of “Service Before Self” by serving others willingly, graciously, and selflessly.

DPS Society Spanning 73 years

For more than seven decades, the DPS Society has developed with a spirit and a vision. Today it stands as a citadel of learning and a harbinger of quality consciousness, committed to developing the minds and initiatives of children. The vitality of the classrooms, the energy of the playing fields, and the open friendliness of the work environment have enabled DPS students to reach their fullest potential-whether in securing distinctions in the board examinations or winning national/international accolades in drama, debates, or sports. Outstanding board results and securing enviable positions in the entrance tests to various professional colleges and institutes of international repute are the accepted identity of a DPS school.

Innovation is fundamental to DPS learning programs and its faculty has endeavored to revolutionize in terms of ideas and practices, to match the demands of twenty-first-century educational trends and global associations. The primary focus is on meaningful and joyful learning. Academics from the country and abroad, meet to exchange and partake of diverse cultural and intellectual experiences.

Educational programs evolve from the felt needs, incorporating contextual issues and challenges. Activities and events related to value education, environment, health education, games and sports, visual and performing arts, culture and heritage, international experience sharing, personality development, etc. are effectively woven into the main fabric of the school curriculum.
